Title

A Winter Survey for Oxygen and Temperature in McNearney Lake, Chippewa County, Michigan

Description

McNearney Lake was hypothesized to be a winter-kill lake because two populations of fish planted in the fall could not be detected in the spring. The gavimetric cell oxygen analyzer was used to check for oxygen and temperature.
Four test points were chosen on the 121 acre lake. These points were chosen at random on the map and located on the lake. On a bi-weekly basis these test points were tested for oxygen and temperature. The test were done at each meter of depth with three points being ten metes deep and one nine.
The free oxygen level decreased it never reached what was considered toxic to fish life. The hypothesis of winter-kill was rejected and no explanation for the winter death was formulated.
