Title

Chemotaxis in Escherichia to D-Galactose

Description

The chemotactic response to D-galactose by a wild strain of Escherichia coli was studied for E. coli cultured in nutrient broth and E. coli cultured in Rogosa's synthetic medium. The effect of enrichment of these media with D-L-methionine was observed also. Twenty-four-hour cultures were centrifuged and then washed and suspended in a pH 7.0 phosphate buffer. Chemotaxis to various concentrations of D-galactose were then tested using a modification of Adler's capillary method.
